Jasper Ray McClellan Obituary

"Mac" was born on January 19, 1911, in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Samuel Edwin McClellan and Bertha Maria Lewis. He Was the ninth of twelve children.
He was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned the Eagle Award in 1930, becoming among the first in Mexico to earn the award. He graduated high school from the Juarez academy and served two years in the Spanish Mission. In 1937, he married Rula LaVina Price,of Charleston, Utah. Following the wedding, they remained in Salt Lake City. Together they had five sons, one of whom passed away as a child.
Jasper was a master teacher, carpenter, and builder, skills he learned from his father. He loved to sing and listen to music by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Jasper served two Spanish-speaking stake missions for the LDS Church.
In 1957, Jasper moved with his family to Monterrey, Mexico, where he was called to oversee the labor missionary (building) program in Northern Mexico. In 1961, the family moved to Mexico City, where the effort was expanded to include the entire country. He supervised the construction of numerous LDS meetinghouses and elementary schools and remodeled and refurbished others.
In May of 1965, Jasper was called to preside over the Mexico City Mission. Following his mission, he worked as the Church real estate representative for Mexico. Upon retirement in 1976, Jasper and Rula moved back to his beloved birthplace in Colonia Juarez, Mexico, where he planted a sizeable apple orchard and watered using the first sprinkling system in the area. Jasper and Rula lived and served among their dear friends and relatives in Colonia Juarez for many years.
Jasper's wish during his waning years was that he could soon go to be with his sweetheart, Rula, who preceded him in death. He is survived by four sons, 20 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter, all of who loved and will miss him dearly. He is also survived by two sisters, Lula Croft (102), and Ione Taylor (94).
Jasper was laid to rest in the Col. Juarez Cemetery next to his wife, Rula his father, Samuel Edwin, and his grandfather, William Carrol McClellan
